Historic Pineapple Plantations & Cooler Temperatures
The Central Region is located in the saddle between the windward Koolau mountain range and the leeward Waianae mountain range in the center of Oahu. The higher elevation provides cooler temperatures and sweeping vistas from some properties. Wahiawa was built around the pineapple industry and really started to develop in 1940s and 50s. Development in the area continued with Mililani town in the late 60’s to 90s. The newest communities in Mililani Mauka and Launani Valley were built in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Like other regions with early plantation beginnings, the residents in the Waipahu region are an eclectic mix of cultures. Many military families also call this area home because Schoefield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield are located near Wahiawa. There is a good mix of all residential types of properties as well as a fair amount of commercial property in the area.
