Historic Fishing & Farming Communities
The Kaneohe region occupies the northern half of the Windward Coast and includes the communities of Kaneohe, Kahaluu, Kaaawa, Punaluu, and Hauula. The steep rugged Koolau Mountain Range, covered with a blanket of tropical foliage in every imaginable shade of green, provides a dramatic backdrop and contrast to the turquoise and azure hues of the ocean.
This is what it looks like when people dream of Hawaii. The calm waters of Kaneohe Bay are popular for boating, fishing, diving, kayaking and paddling. The residents of Kaneohe and small towns along the windward coast are mostly local families and mainland transplants associated with Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), which is located on the southern end of the bay. In Kaneohe town there is a variety of single-family homes, townhomes, and condos as well as a fair variety of commercial properties. Going up the coast it’s mostly limited to single family homes and few commercial properties.
